The Start-Up Centre builds up SMEs in a unique Start-Up programme combining coaching by the Think-Tank and advanced education in the Training Centre. It is addressed to young graduates and professionals from the North and the South, who want to establish their own water business.

The Think-Tank is a core group of international high-level experts from the sector, who bring in their network, expertise and the current state-of-the-art knowledge in order to ensure the strategic and practical orientation of the Start-Ups.

Advanced education in the Training Centre cover not only technical aspects of sustainable sanitation and water management (SSWM), but also business development, practical experiences (best practice projects), international management issues and guide the Start-Ups through the whole process of business planning. The training centre is also accessible for individuals or groups of individuals from organisations that want to improve their skills in the field of sustainable sanitation and water management (as a business) independently from the Start-Up programme.

By bringing together international teams (North-South partnerships), the SMEs can offer solutions based on international know-how and are able to act and react sustainably towards global challenges and business opportunities in the sector. After the Start-Up Programme, SMEs (former Start-Ups) get continuous in-house support through the Business Platform and backstopping by the cewas Think-Tank and network in order to consolidate their position in the market.
