With the aim of motivating young entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through its Water and Sanitation Division and the IDB LAB, announced the second edition of the e-Hackathon on Water and Sanitation in informal settlements.
A total of 85 groups, corresponding to more than 350 young people responded to the call presenting their multidisciplinary teams, their motivation and their ideas to be developed. From all of them, 30 groups were selected, with a total of 120 young people who received the support and guidance of mentors from cewas and Young Water Solutions from 4 to 6 March 2022.
The e-Hackathon represents a process of co-creation and open innovation that seeks fresh and new solutions to the challenge of providing water and sanitation services to Latin Americans living in the so-called barrios, favelas, villas, ranchos, callampas, etc., in general terms, informal settlements. Once the teams present their ideas, an expert jury is in charge of selecting the two most innovative ones, obtaining a winner for the water challenge and a winner for the sanitation challenge. As a prize, these winners get a guaranteed participation in the Latin American Edition of the Young Water Fellowship.
